2011 Suzuki M109 Limited edition Review   by jay smith

What sort of bike can you bring to a superhero rally? The current Comic Con International drew teeming numerous wannabe do-gooders, villains, brain-munching zombies, merciless monsters and other dark denizens of sci-fi, horror and graphic novel to the celebration of the things using this world. The Suzuki M109R Special edition fit right in as being a warm gun in a knife fight.

Suzuki blew inside the emerging power cruiser market if it launched its half-cruiser, half-sportbike beastie in 2006. An enormous, 109 cubic-inch (1783cc) engine was implanted as being the bike's cruel heart. Hot-rod styling cues, like the fashionably fat 240mm rear tire, low-slung seat and top gun riding position were added for proper menacing attitude. The 127 crankshaft hp (about 106 horses for the wheel), fire-snorting, liquid-cooled V-Twin was ready to wreak chaos on the American avenue.

Cruising Comic Con about the superhero M109R. Sci-fi had nothing about the earth-ripping powers of the Suzuki M109R Exclusive edition.

The project was an unholy amalgam with the race-honed GSX-R superbike plus the undead remains from the popular but musty Intruder. The M109R ("M" for mighty; "R" for racing) was dubbed the modern king on the cruisers by some jaw-dropped pundits if it first scorched the asphalt. Critics derided its chunky style and chubby 764-pound curb weight, but the M109R added a new dimension towards the sport-cruiser category.

People of New york sleep sounder if your M109R in on patrol.

San Diego's sci-fi convention features the film and print world's most fanatic followers. Herds of costumed characters and caped crusaders spilled out of the convention center and into the town's Gaslamp Quarter, parading, primping, growling, posing and receiving the superhero or mad monster they adore most.

Sci-fi premieres were everywhere, but once i rode the M109R down possibly crime-ridden boulevards and darkened alleys, prepared to rescue damsels to put it briefly dresses, I knew in my heart Captain America had nothing on me. The M109R shot about town such as a rolling ace in the hole on the mission, able to shift in to a thunderous menace. For a couple summery days with this lovely seaside city, I felt such as the king of the zombies, or at best a superhero's apprentice.

The Suzuki provided a mind-blowing rush beyond whatever Comic Con's best nerd-brains could imagine. Rolling amid the trikes manufactured to look like starships, the cars hung with time-machine-like bodywork, and the walking comic characters dressed to kill, the M109R separated itself being a real-deal rocket ship, albeit sure to an earthly street, the inconvenience to a leathered crusader.

The M109 strikes an intimidating pose.

The M109R shoots over line just like a speeding bullet, smoothly accelerating through its powerband with resolute aplomb. The drivetrain's only drawback will be the fixed limit of that five-speed gearbox. The engine is really packed with pep it begs to get galloped seem to a minimum of a sixth gear.

New in 2010 for that M109R series is this Special cosmetic package that commands a $400 sticker bump to $14,500. It's distinguished by its Glass Sparkle Black/Candy Max Orange paint and black (rather than silver) wheels. The package is finished served by a white/gray fade-pattern speedo backdrop about the tank-mounted gauge panel, a textured seat with Suzuki Boulevard brand name and a definite lens for that LED taillights.

An original M109R design am well planned, we wouldn't want Suzuki to improve much other than adding an overdrive transmission gear and the option of some nicely integrated hard bags, easily detachable and adequate to hold enough stuff to provide you down the line for a weekend or maybe more. Some riders may as being a windshield or even-egad-a fairing, but that would hardly be the superhero way. Besides, we like the wind and bugs along with other such road splatter smashing us from the mouth at 75 per. It's just part of the pure cruiser experience, that's what the M109R represents - avenue-assassin looks with super biker powers.

Media Girl meets her match.

The boulevard blaster is a surprisingly comfortable ride, handling long-haul duties in addition to it rips up asphalt with all the might its rated 118 ft-lb of torque (about 100 ft-lb with the wheel) will muster. A rapid twist on the wrist can send your eyeballs bouncing to your back within your head and also the bike rearing through to its haunches as being a spooked racehorse. Precisely how we like it, even though our army of corporate attorneys would rather send us memos about power is absolutely nothing without control along with such pesky blabber that creates our heads hurt. Fortunately, Suzuki has had proper care of this for all of us, creating a monster machine with polite manners.

Riding Suzuki's flagship cruiser would have been a breeze.

The bike's architecture didn't stop with simply shoehorning a big-ass motor in a cruiser chassis. Handling is superbly delivered via a high-tensile steel frame developed to absorb huge twists of torque. Inverted for greater stability and strength, top fork boasts hefty 46mm tubes, providing a healthy 5.1 inches of front wheel travel.

A cast aluminum swingarm, progressive shock linkage as well as a preload-adjustable shock give you a firm but comfortable ride and 4.7 inches of rear-wheel travel. The four-piston, 310mm dual disc front brakes and twin-piston, 275mm rear disc competently reels from the black beauty. Spiral spoke cast aluminum wheels, 3.50 x 18-inch front and 8.50 x 18-inch rear and covered with Dunlop, round out the suspension. Basically, the bike handles a lot better than looks possible.

Another surprise is when cozy the M109R's seat is. Set wide but low at 27.8 inches, the plush saddle will give you happy butt despite hours of droning around the superslab. The passenger seat, included in a plastic cowling it uses very little for that cool bad-boy, lone-rider look, is additionally deceptively engineered because they are convenient than it appears.

Through the side it doesn't seem like your pillion is likely to like you, but consider the Suzuki's seat from the rear also it suddenly appears to be have twice the butt placement area, a small but significant detail consistent with the bike's unordinary design, and something that could keep couples together after an extended ride. A 5.2-gallon tank, fuel economy around 35 mpg, and even more creature comforts than one would expect from your hardcore cruiser, and also the Suzuki M109R almost asks for being flogged all damn day.

2011 Suzuki Boulevard M109

Suzuki's M109R pounds out big power and competent handling to earn a deserved spot presents itself the muscle-cruiser category.

As with most motorcycles, you will discover intangibles to contemplate when measuring Suzuki's flagship cruiser. Through the throaty dual exhaust that reminds us true biking will not be dead to spot-on ergonomics, the M109R drips superhero sex appeal. The cockpit puts the rider from the most badass profile possible, legs forward and spread in a most cocky angle.

The M109R can be an empowering machine, motorcycling fun at its core, along with the kind of ride which could turn the standard, mild-mannered rider in a street hero
