Yamaha Virgo 750 †Yamaha’s admired V-Twin Cruiser by Eyes Webmaster

It was the first Japanese bike to roll out of the production assembly having a V-Twin engine, its Yamaha Virgo 750. The bike was brought to production in 1981 with a 750cc V-Twin. Soon the bike became the talk among motorcycle enthusiasts and Yamaha decided to offer the bike with two new 500cc and 920cc engines. Last of the motorcycles rolled out the production in 1998. The seating of the bike was highly comfortable. The two piece seat and the backrest were all brought together on a single baseplate.

Yamaha Virgo 750 wasn’t fast but made you look cooler than the fast. Virgo 750 was a complete package it was torquey, did what a cruiser should be doing and was second to none for long distance rides. Isn’t that enough to make you believe how capable the Virgo was? I will give you some more.
The handle bar was straight that gave comfortable riding experience for long hours. At turns the Virgo made its rider feel confident, the only disappointment came from short footpegs. On long road Yamaha Virgo 750 was comfortable and capable, but the motorcycle wasn’t the only ride on roads. Yamaha faced sever competition from Harley Davidson’s Sportster and Suzuki Marauder.

The V-Twin was served by dual Mikuni 40mm carburetors that dint left the bike with flat spot power band. The cable operated clutch was as capable as hydraulic actuated clutches. And I should say it was more communicative than hydro powered clutches.

On comfort level, Yamaha was far more than the two mentioned competitors. The seats were beefy and bucket type that settled riders well and kept them in same position. They were placed were lower than the fuel tank that kept the riders protected from wind at high speeds. The pillion seat was sloping and had to be, to keep the rear company in company.

Throughout its production, Yamaha almost never updated the Virgo apart from two new engine offering. The engine was chromed, that was appealing, and critics added it would have been better in black. Those who looked for a well rounded midweight cruiser bike living in the 80’s, Yamaha Virgo 750 was the only option.
