Held motorcycle boots are important because they protect feet. Feet are the hardest working and most vulnerable part of a biker's body. When people think of motorcycles and motorcycle safety, they immediately think of the biker bodysurfing across pavement or stones at a high rate of speed and the damage done to the torso, face, hands and arms. Total safety includes safe riding apparel of helmets, jackets, gloves, pants and boots. The truth is, feet are more vulnerable and in more danger consistently than any other part of the body. Motorcycle boots protect these; great motorcycle boots offer a lot of protection to the biker's feet.
Feet spend their time in the danger zone; they are close to the road or track and near the hot exhaust systems. Feet also the busiest part of the biker's body on a motorcycle, they are always shifting gears, shifting the weight to balance in turns, braking, dragging the pavement or exerting pressure to keep the bike upright. The boots that encase feet need to be flexible for maximum movement on foot pegs and rigid to resist impacts and crushing. This is accomplished in great designs.
The highest levels of safety are built into held motorcycle boots. Many new bikers make the mistake of spending money on something that looks good. Style is important; quality, functionality and safety are much more important. Quality footwear is made from thick material with reinforcement in the shin area. Non-slip soles need to be resistant to oil and petrol. A reinforced heel is necessary, preferably one that hugs the foot and allows greater control.
